This 23 home
subdivision was built in the 1960's on Paris Mountain in
Greenville, SC. Having steep terrain and limited soil
cover, each home was equipped with a septic tank whose
overflow was collected and piped to a small package
treatment plant that then discharged into a pristine
mountain stream. The plant failed after several years of
postponed maintenance. SCDHEC issued an Administrative
Order for compliance and Caliber Engineering was retained
to evaluate feasible options to solve the problem.
An Engineering
Analysis of on-site and off-site options included:
-
Individual lot On-Site
Wastewater Systems (OSWS) with Advantex pretreatment, UV
disinfection, and surface drip irrigation.
-
New communal
wastewater treatment plant and multi-zone surface
irrigation.
-
Clustered lot systems
with Advantex pretreatment, UV disinfection and surface
drip irrigation.
-
Pump station and force
main to nearest gravity sewer approximately four miles
away.
-
Individual lot OSWS
with Advantex pretreatment, with disinfection, and
subsurface drip irrigation.
Project is awaiting funding.
